Blend: 75% Mourvedre – Curtis Vineyard, 25% Grenache – Portico Hills Vineyard

Nose (aromas): flint, red tea, tart wild raspberry

Flavor (palate): black tea, clove, red cherry, touch of salinity

Winemaker’s Notes: This wine is named after the “Southern” wine regions of France, specifically a Provencal region called Bandol, where Mourvedre is either made in single varietal format or used as the main grape in a blend. Try pairing this wine with any earth driven dish, from olive tapenades and fresh bread, to smoked chicken rubbed with herbes de Provence – or even pappardelle pasta with portobello mushroom ragu.

Ageing Potential: Now – 2030+

Additional Notes: This is only the second vintage of Southerly, and the first was way back in 2013! As this wine ages, it will exhibit the classic “Mourvedre earth” aroma as I like to call it, losing only a bit of freshness, but gaining many complex layers in the process!
