2017 Pinot Noir

2017 Pinot Noir – 40% Portico Hills Vineyard (Los Alamos Valley), 30% Riverbench Vineyard (Santa Maria Valley, 30% Rancho Real Vineyard (Santa Maria Valley) – 13.8% abv

Nose (aromas): dark cherry, wet stone, wood spice, white pepper

Flavor (palate): red plum, pepper, dried herbs

Winemaker’s Notes: This wine is elegant and pretty, with a lingering finish and soft tannins. It is bright while young, but given a little more time to age, it will happily reward you. Excellent pairings with Pinot include plank grilled salmon, wild mushroom risotto, duck breast, coq au vin, even classic Boeuf Bourguignon. As far as cheeses go, try blue cheese, gouda, brie, gruyere and goat cheese.

Ageing Potential: Now-2024+

Additional Info: This years Pinot Noir is a blend of three vineyards. We believe that the blend of these sites perfectly displays the amazing potential of Santa Maria and Los Alamos, in a more earth-driven, spicer fruit style. Soft tannins allow this Pinot to showcase its elegant acidity and inviting aromatics. The larger Santa Maria area hugs an old riverbed, with a direct connection to the ocean. This means fog blankets and a bit of cool ocean breeze, a perfect match for a Burgundian micro climate!

Winemaker’s Notes: Even in its relatively youthful stage, this Zin will impress with its elegant acidity, smooth tannins, and well balanced fruit to spice ratio. Since Zinfandel can pair with almost any food, it is a versatile wine and a crowd pleaser, perfect for the cooler weather of Fall and Winter. Pair it with braised meats, briskets and stews, vegetarian soups and casseroles, Indian spice dishes, or aged cheeses. An unctuous beauty!

Ageing potential: Now- 2027

Additional Notes: This is our first ever Zinfandel sourced from Santa Barbara County (as opposed to Paso Robles), and we are thrilled! It’s a great example of a cooler growing climate that allows for the development of beautiful fresh red fruit and acidity, alongside the warm spice profile found in Zins. We were hoping to showcase those differences in climate AND to offer a Zin that sits a little bit outside of the box, but is still a star!
