2017 Rebel Roan

Blend: 41% Syrah – Santa Ynez Vineyard, 37% Grenache – Riata Oaks Vineyard, 15% Mourvedre – Curtis Vineyard, 7% Petite Sirah – Carhartt Vineyard.

Nose (aromas): black cherry reduction, dried meat, coffee bean, crushed herbs

Flavor (palate): raspberry, tellicherry pepper, mesquite, bittersweet chocolate

Winemaker’s Notes: This is an absolute rockstar vintage for Rebel Roan. Beautiful weight in the mouth and balanced acidity reveal a wine wise beyond its year and half in bottle. Pair it with something light such as sweet potato and onion hash, middle of the-week meatloaf with mac ‘n cheese, or throw pork chops on the grill and garnish with some rosemary-infused roasted garlic.

Ageing Potential: Now – 2030+

Additional Notes: This wine is playfully named after Mike Carhartt’s strawberry roan horse, “Rebel.” He passed away more than a decade ago, but his legacy is everlasting at Rancho Santa Ynez, as seen in this wine. Powerful yet elegant, this wine is as trustworthy as Rebel was for Mike. It will undoubtedly age gracefully, revealing all of the savory characteristics we love with aged Rhone blends.
